Support for Religious Leaders

Shepherd's Rest

Caring for Those Who Care for Others

Pastors, imams, priests, and faith leaders carry the spiritual and emotional weight of their communities every day — often without anyone to carry them. Shepherd's Rest exists to change that.

We offer religious leaders a confidential, culturally safe space to access professional counselling, peer support, and mental health care so they can lead sustainably and live fully.

“You cannot pour from an empty vessel.”

Our Purpose

Why Shepherd's Rest?

Religious leaders are among the most sought-after helpers in any community, yet they are also among the least likely to seek help for themselves. The burden of always being strong, always being available, and always having answers takes a deep toll. Shepherd's Rest was created to give these leaders a space where they can be human — to grieve, to rest, to heal, and to grow.

The Challenge

The Hidden Crisis

Religious leaders are expected to be pillars of strength. But pastors, imams, priests, bishops, and sheikhs carry enormous weight — often without anyone to carry them.

Faith leaders hold space for funerals, family crises, community conflicts, and personal hardships — all while managing their own grief, doubts, and fatigue. Whether it is a pastor preaching through personal pain, an imam counselling a family after a suicide loss, or a priest navigating institutional pressure, many carry this weight silently, without access to professional support or a safe space to be vulnerable.

“They pour out for others. Shepherd's Rest exists to refill them.”

Our Response

Our Response

Shepherd's Rest is a confidential mental health support programme for religious leaders across all faith traditions — pastors, imams, priests, bishops, and lay leaders who need professional care but rarely ask for it.

Through one-on-one counselling, peer support circles, and practical mental health resources, CSRI Kenya walks alongside faith leaders so they can continue serving their communities from a place of genuine strength and wellbeing.
